It is a type of flange that is connected with the pipe by two filled welds. One from the outside and one from the inside. These flanges are forged and constructed. Slip-on flanges are widely used in various fluid pipelines because their structure is simple and processing is convenient.
Just like welded neck flange, slip-on flange also possesses an ample amount of strength and works well even under fatigue conditions. It allows easy installation without putting effort and damage to the flange face. The bore of the slip-on will give a sufficient amount of space for the matching pipe. These flanges are also knowns as ANSI flanges or B16.5 flanges.
Slip-on flanges are more commonly found in lower-pressure assemblies and become less utilized when higher-stress service connections to the piping systems. This is because a slip-on style flange will accept a pipe with a fillet weld connection, whereas a weld neck flange will have a reinforced hub at the base and form a weld bevel connection directly to the butt weld end of a pipe. This tapered hub allows for stronger service in a mechanical stress environment.
Uses:
- For fluids under low pressure.
- Reduces the risk of leakage.
- Can also withstand high temperature
- Structural pipe
- Plumbing and heating
Applications:
- Cooling water lines
- Firefighting water lines
- low-pressure compressed airlines
Industries:
- Oil and Gas Pipeline
- Chemical
- Paper and Pulp
- Fabrication
- Food Processing
- Water Supply systems
- Power Plants
Advantages:
- Low installation cost
- Easier to align with piping system tem
- Prevents leakage
- Lesser time is needed to spend on ensuring the accuracy of the cut pipe.
